a bit of this, a bit of that

So, it's about time for an update post. Things have gotten really hectic with Mark's schedule this month and me being back at Tyndale. For example, Mark left at 5:30 am on Tuesday morning and didn't get home until around 2 pm on Wednesday this week. This month, his inpatient family medicine rotation, that type of on-call night happens every 6th or 7th night. It makes for one very tired pair when I get back on Wednesday afternoon, after doing the night feed by myself two nights in a row. We were lucky enough to have my mom with us the last two weeks, otherwise, there's no way we would have made it unscathed. She's been taking his early morning feed and hence, keeping the moniter in her room all night, allowing us to at least get solid sleep when we can.

All this fun combined to make us reevaluate how much it was working to have me back full time at Tyndale. We tried to work something out so I could do part time, allowing more time at home, but Tyndale wasn't flexible in that way. So, we decided that as of the 24th, I'm going to start being a mom full time. For how long, we're not sure...but it will be a great change to have one of us around to support the babe and Mark, as he gets through this tough year. I'm super excited for the time with Dane, equally afraid of having to do it by myself all day (at this point, he's crying around 50-60% of the time he's awake), and praying that it will get easier, like everyone reassures me it will. I'm already pumped about getting more time to work on projects around the house (I've been searching for good fabric to make some curtains for Dane's future nursery, currently the moms' room). You can look at my blog, larissanoel.blogspot.com for what I'm trying to decide between. That blog has kind of been defunct, so I'm also excited to start working on it again, and turn it into a good place for design and craftiness of all kinds.

We also made a long weekend trip to Green Lake on the 4th of July, where Dane put his sun hat to use and saw Dad being a ham waterskiing for the first time. The weather wasn't as nice as we'd hoped for, and Dane cried the entire 4 hours home, but we survived and got a little extra sleep, thanks to the grandparents.

We've taken tons of photos, so I'm just going to add a bunch here to catch you all up on our latest fun with the babe.
dane has worn a nice path off the back of his hair from his time on his back.
Check out how orange his hair is!

Chillin' with Dad at Green Lake.
And in his hat from Auntie Rachel from Madison.

Fun with his best friend, the playyard Octopus! Ideas for what we should call him?

Happy for a trip outside with Grandma!

  1. We still have lots of those CDH blankets hanging around my house too...they are the best! Larissa, I think you made a good choice to stay home. Given the special circumstances of Dane's birth and Mark's busy schedule, I'm just in awe that you ever went back to work in the first place!! You'll find a good group of "mommy friends" to help you pass the long hours at home...and you're always welcome to call far-away mommies like me to vent too! And someday in the near future, I'm sure you'll be able to go back to work when things have settled a bit...I'm definitely looking forward to that day for myself too! Dane continues to just be the cutest little thing...his little smile just tugs at my heart in such a joyful way! I look forward to reading the other blog :).

  2. L&M,

So glad to hear things are adjusting well for you. Lar, you made the right decision to stay at home. It's not worth it to be tied to work when your babe and husband need you at home. Life is too short.

I miss you so much. We need to catch up.

    love, katy

Just wanted to take a moment to say hello and
to remind you that you are all in my heart and thoughts always. I'm so glad you will be able
to stay at home with your precious Dane.
This will be one of the best gifts you can give your son. Every child needs their Mom + Dad no matter what their age. You are all so blessed.
